New Energy Coalition, based in Groningen, the Netherlands, is dedicated to advancing sustainable energy solutions and driving economic growth through innovation. We collaborate with diverse stakeholders to promote the adoption of renewable energy technologies, foster collaborations, and address climate change challenges. As a knowledge and network organisation, we facilitate innovation and education, from supporting students through the New Energy Academy and energy professionals via the New Energy Business School to implementing concrete energy projects, to achieve our goal of accelerating the energy transition.

Topic
Company Strategy Development for Empowering SME’s in Developing Positive Energy Districts PED) to Solve Grid Congestion
We are seeking a highly motivated MSc student to join us as an intern to develop a company strategy for engaging and supporting SME clusters in the development of Positive Energy Districts (PED) as a solution to solve grid congestion. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on real-world challenges, gain hands-on experience, and make a meaningful impact in the energy sector. A strong link with real-world challenges is created through the use of best practices and lessons learned from the FLEXPOSTS-project.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research and analysis on technological and non-technological aspects of demo-sites to facilitate replication;
- Develop a comprehensive company strategy for empowering SME’s in developing grid congestion solutions considering local dynamics and requirements;
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather insights and ensure alignment with organizational goals;
- Formulate a compelling value proposition for empowering SME clusters in overcoming net congestion and stimulate economic growth.
Qualifications
- You are motivated, take initiative, demonstrate engagement, and take responsibility for your own success and learning process;
- Affinity with the energy transition and/or sustainability;
- Fluent English speaking, writing, and listening (must);
- Affinity with working in a team environment;
- Currently enrolled in an MSc program in a relevant field such as Energy Engineering, Sustainable Development, or a related discipline;
- Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information;
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders effectively;
- Demonstrated interest in sustainable energy solutions and a passion for making a positive impact.

- Compensation of €350 per month;
- Good coordination between work and graduation research;
- Regular guidance discussions with your supervisor from New Energy Coalition;
- Ability to work from the office (Zernike Campus) or from home;
- You will be loaned a laptop;

Duration
This internship is a full-time position for a duration of 3 to 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs.
