Amstelveen-based Giga Storage has begun construction of a battery to store electricity at the Aldel site in Delfzijl. This battery will be connected directly to the high-voltage grid. In addition to the high-voltage grid connection, Giga Storage also manages the closed distribution network. The company has since received an exemption from the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) and is now permitted to operate its own grid independently.

According to Dijkers, this means that Giga Storage can directly supply steam to businesses in the area. 50 megawatts are available for this purpose.Companies on the Aldel site or in the immediate vicinity can contact us if they want a connection'', Dijkers said on Wednesday.
