New sludge processing facility in Delfzijl
Another step forward in the energy transition in the Netherlands' "hydrogen valley." Energy for Waste (EEW) in Delfzijl has invested €100 million in a mono-sludge processing plant. The plant incinerates sewage sludge and converts it into steam.
With visible enthusiasm, director Wilfred de Jager leads a tour of the new factory in Delfzijl, where Groningen sewage sludge is converted into valuable energy at high temperatures. The facility is a key link in the sustainability of the waste and energy chain, with benefits for both water boards and industry. This method of energy generation is a form of biomass gasification.
You can read exactly how the process works, why this investment is so important for the region, and the role companies like Avantium play in it on the RTV Noord website.
