Public Participation Center
Research Center for Citizen Participation in the Energy Transition.
Goal
The knowledge center connects research and practice (NGOs, policymakers, public and private organizations) in the field of participation in climate change, the energy transition, and other societal issues. The center also creates and disseminates this knowledge.
Description
The energy transition is like a complex puzzle where every piece must fit together, including community acceptance. The participation center emphasizes the importance of involving and informing people about new energy projects, such as installing heat pumps or building large electrolyzers near residential areas, to prevent resistance and ensure the project's success. Finally, effective public participation is seen as a crucial factor in the success of energy projects.
Our role
New Energy Coalition is responsible for organizing events aimed at disseminating research results and further expanding the knowledge network. We also contribute substantively where possible by sharing knowledge and expertise in the areas of citizen participation, funding applications, and connecting private and public organizations.
Partners
The Participation Center is a collaboration between New Energy Coalition, the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences, associate professors Goda Perlaviciute and Lorenzo Squintani of the University of Groningen (RUG).
The RUG now has the participation center fully under its own management.
