Powering Agrifood
Calculating technological options for a sustainable agricultural and food sector.
Goal
Powering AgriFood accelerates the energy transition in the agri-food sector by identifying sustainable solutions, disseminating innovations, and fostering collaboration across the entire food value chain (from farm to fork) to achieve systemic impact.
Description
Powering AgriFood supports the transition of the Dutch agri/food sector to sustainable energy by lowering costs, reducing emissions, and generating new revenue. It includes (1) a systems study on how agri-food players can influence local energy systems through flexible, green technologies, and (2) a pilot project using biogas-fueled solid oxide fuel cells to convert agricultural waste into usable energy such as steam or hydrogen, assessing the potential for Dutch and international application.
Our role
We are providing project coordination for Powering Agrifood in collaboration with the University of Groningen. We are responsible for the overall progress of the project, its results, and disseminating news about the project's activities and the achieved results. We also support the University of Groningen in mapping the Noord-Nederlandthe energy system and the workshops held in Groningen.

Powering Agrifood is a collaboration between New Energy Coalition, University of Groningen, EBN, NAM, Gasunie, GasTerra, Koningshoeven Abbey, Royal Cosun, Delta Agrifood Business, Biosfera Foundation, iRCB/ibert, Delft University of Technology, and AVANS University of Applied Sciences.
