Marthe Jacobi Executive Secretary
Marthe is the executive secretary to CEO Marieke Abbink and plays an important, though invisible to the outside world, role within New Energy Coalition. From her supporting position, she contributes to bringing together parties working on a sustainable energy system of the future.
How are you New Energy Coalition ended up?
"I studied Commercial Economics and previously worked as a communications officer. However, I noticed that this didn't quite suit me. I started thinking about what I did enjoy: planning, organizing, and putting people underSupporting appealed to me. Then I saw the vacancy. of my current position I came by and thought, this might just suit me. The organization seemed to me to be on a pleasant scale, not too big and not too small; this is correct. also."
What exactly does your job entail?
"As an executive secretary, I primarily support our CEO. I manage her calendars, prepare action lists, and ensure that appointments can be properly prepared for and followed up. Additionally, I support the New Energy Business School. where I have similar tasks. Mare Work revolves a lot around maintaining an overview and thinking aheadwhat has priority and what can potentially be moved. It is therefore important to have a good feel for the organization.
Are there also projects or events you are working on?
Yes, iI am in the organization of Wind meets Gas, where I fulfill the role of secretary. In this position, I prepare the invitations for the speakers and maintain contact with them. I arrange their travel and hotel accommodations and ensure that everything regarding their participation runs smoothly.
In addition, I coordinate arrangements with the technical and catering teams and work with colleagues to keep the website up to date, ensuring that all information is correct and complete. I also assist with arranging venues. On the day of the event itself, I am present at registration and ensure that everything runs as smoothly as possible, so that the program can proceed without problems.
You had no prior experience as a secretary. How did you learn?
"I have here aeverything actually in practice I learned so much In the beginning, I was assigned a buddy who helped me get started. Gradually You learn how people work and what the dynamics within an organization are like. Everyone has their own style, so you also develop your own way. van the further helpn from colleagues. I like that; you growit in your role while gaining more insight into the bigger picture.”
How does your role contribute to the energy transition?
Indirectly, certainly something. I make sure for example before that agreements with partners in the calendar komen to be in place, to proceed smoothly, and that everyone is sitting at the table together at the right moment. New Energy Coalition brings many parties together to to work on sustainable energy solutions. By I contribute in my own way to support that process.
Are there things in your work that others might not immediately see?
Certainly, those are often the little things. Think of visitors being checked in, parking matters that need to be arranged, or the front desk of the building where we have our office, those of a similar nature needs to be informed. Planning ahead is also important. These are not mega-high-profile tasks, but they are important.”
What do you like most about your work?
I enjoy being involved in everything a little bit. In my role, I get a good sense of what is going on in the organization, including at a strategic level. As a result, I see the big picture and understand why certainappointments or projects have priority. That motivates me enormously.
