Expertise
We focus on open innovation with in-depth expertise in hydrogen chains, energy hubs, sustainable carbon, and human capital. Together with partners from the region and beyond, we develop solutions that contribute to a sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy system that are locally applicable but have an impact far beyond the northern energy region.
Hydrogen value chains
Hydrogen is a vital link in a future-proof energy system. From production and storage to transport and applications in industry, the built environment, and mobility: hydrogen chains are essential for the transition to alternative energy carriers.
Hydrogen has been an expertise of New Energy CoalitionIn recent years, we have worked hard on research, innovation, and implementation of hydrogen chains within and outside our region. For example, we are the driving force behind the two Hydrogen Valleys (fully functioning hydrogen value chains) in Groningen/Drenthe region en Noord-Holland Noord.
Energy hubs
Grid congestion is putting pressure on our energy system, both in our region and across Europe. Energy hubs are essential for enabling the transition to a sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy system.
New Energy Coalition works with public and private partners to develop energy hubs that intelligently connect supply and demand at the local level. These hubs are applicable at both industrial and urban levels and combine multiple energy carriers. In this way, we contribute to a sustainable energy system that strengthens the region and prepares it for the future.
Sustainable carbon
Not all CO2 emissions can be avoided, but by capturing, converting and reusing CO2 as an energy carrier, a sustainable chain is created.
New Energy Coalition has built up years of expertise in biogas and (bio)LNG. Since 2021, we have been working on advanced applications such as in the project ConsenCUS, where captured CO2 is converted into sustainable energy carriers. This gives carbon a place within a sustainable energy system.
Human capital
A reliable energy system requires well-trained people. The availability of skilled professionals and knowledge is crucial for maintaining, improving, and further developing systems. But it also requires people who drive innovations and bring them to market, people who are pioneers in an as-yet-unknown energy future. People from all disciplines and at all levels.
Together with educational institutions, companies and governments, we are working on future-proof energy education in the northern energy region. We are developing a coherent learning offer, from vocational education to MBA, that meets the challenges of today and tomorrow. We also offer energy education for (young) professionals, students and organizations via our New Energy Business School en New Energy AcademyThis way, we ensure that knowledge is retained in the northern energy region and that new generations are ready to work on the energy system of the future.
