Kick-off construction of Hydrogen Tiny House Hoogeveen

Students from Alfa College vocational school in the city of Hoogeveen started building a mobile Hydrogen Tiny House on November 26.

The tiny house is being built exclusively using sustainable and circular materials. You can follow the construction process on the website. hydrogentinyhouse.nlIt is part of the hydrogen project in Hoogeveen, which also includes the construction of the new Nijstad-Oost residential area using green hydrogen and the conversion of existing homes in Erflanden residential estate to hydrogen.

Many students and young professionals were involved in the design. For example, during a hackathon in May 2018, an initial design for the tiny house with a hydrogen vehicle in front was created. A group of 45 young professionals, experts from the business community, knowledge institutions, and the municipality collaborated on this project. In March, further design work continued at the Sustainability Center at Alfa College Hoogeveen. Students and professionals from the regional business community then began working on an initial draft design. At the end of the day, the results were presented by the attendees, including construction engineers, installation technicians, and architects. The results of these sessions were incorporated into the final design.

Hydrogen Tiny House as a hybrid learning environment

At the Tiny House, students can gain theoretical knowledge about the use of green hydrogen as an energy source for (existing) homes. They can also apply this knowledge practically, creating a hybrid learning environment. A contemporary curriculum is being developed for all levels of education at the Tiny House, aimed at inspiring young people to explore technology.

Living on hydrogen tour

Once the Tiny House is finished, the "Hydrogen Living Tour" will begin. The tiny house will then travel to six locations in the region to demonstrate how hydrogen works as a fuel in homes. Educational materials will be developed for this project and will also be available online.
