Roadmap to regional hydrogen hubs

A step-by-step plan for the development of hydrogen energy hubs (hydrogen hubs)

Regional hydrogen hubs

The Netherlands has ambitious hydrogen ambitions, ranging from large-scale production and import to storage, transport, and use. Decentralized initiatives also play a crucial role. Local hydrogen hubs can not only contribute to short-term emission reductions but also serve as a springboard for national implementation. In regions where electrification is challenging or where connections to the national hydrogen network are not yet available, hydrogen hubs offer a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. However, the landscape of these initiatives remains fragmented and unclear.

Roadmap

To clarify how to collaborate in a hydrogen hub, we have created a practical guide in collaboration with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). This guide uses data and underlying research from the program. HyDeltaThe step-by-step plan for regional hydrogen hubs describes what you can do and which subsidies can be applied for each phase.

  • Phase 1: Explore the possibilities
  • Phase 2: research and design the hydrogen hub
  • Phase 3: start construction of the hydrogen hub
  • Phase 4: commission the hydrogen hub
