HyDelta 3 Compendium of Research
The program HyDelta 3 Compendium of Research was drawn up by a consortium of New Energy Coalition, DNV, TNO, Kiwa, Gasunie, and Netbeheer Nederland. The project, carried out between November 2023 and December 2024, was co-funded by TKI Nieuw Gas | Top Sector Energy. The goal was to answer technical, social, economic, and environmental questions surrounding hydrogen transport and distribution. This compendium brings together the results from five main themes and 25 sub-reports.
HyDelta 3
The HyDelta 3 research focuses on five main themes:
- Asset management – strategies for infrastructure reuse and hydrogen quality assurance.
- Economy and society – conditions and models for standalone hydrogen areas and social embedding.
- NOx and emissions – insights into hydrogen leaks, ammonia use and emission reductions.
- Value chain development – standardization of hydrogen metrics, digitalization and supply chains.
- Technology and safety – risk assessments, mitigation measures and practical safety guidelines.
HyDelta 1 & 2
Summaries of previous research projects, HyDelta 1 and HyDelta 2, are also available in our knowledge base. The first edition of HyDelta examined the feasibility, safety, and costs of hydrogen transport via existing gas networks. Following this, the second edition of HyDelta investigated the technical, economic, environmental, and social aspects of hydrogen distribution via the existing gas network.
