HySociety: hydrogen network for government, business and education
The effects of climate change are being felt worldwide through varying temperatures, droughts or, conversely, through heavier rainfall. To combat this climate change, international agreements have been made to limit temperature increases, requiring increased use of renewable energy. Hydrogen as an energy carrier is seen as one solution and is currently being widely implemented. For example, several Hydrogen Valleys, fully functional green hydrogen supply chains, are being developed in Europe. Noord-Nederland has been declared Europe's first Hydrogen Valley and the experiences gained from its development will serve as an example for the rest of Europe.
Hydrogen network
In developing Europe's first Hydrogen Valley, governments, businesses, and educational institutions in the region are collaborating on projects, research, training skilled workers in hydrogen, and retraining professionals. To inform all professionals involved about the various initiatives, and to provide them with the opportunity to learn from each other and collaborate, New Energy Coalition initiated the establishment of HySociety. A network for government, business, and education that meets regularly. "Developing a Hydrogen Valley brings great opportunities for the region in terms of growth, innovation, and employment. To make the most of these opportunities, collaboration and mutual information are crucial. For us as New Energy Coalition, one of our core tasks is to bring parties together and work together to accelerate the energy transition. With HySociety, we have established a network and offer hydrogen professionals from government, business, and education the opportunity to network, gain knowledge, and learn from each other," says Marieke Abbink-Pellenbarg, CEO of New Energy Coalition.
Waterstof Werkt
HySociety is one of the activities from the program Waterstof Werkt, where Jogchem Meinema spoke on behalf of New Energy Coalition Project leader of is. Jogchem: "With Waterstof Werkt, we will soon establish a continuous learning pathway in the region in the field of hydrogen, with education, training, and courses at the vocational, higher professional, university, and postgraduate levels. Good collaboration and a coordinated approach are essential. HySociety ensures that hydrogen professionals from various disciplines come together informally to meet each other, network, and stay informed about current hydrogen developments in Noord-Nederland. Because we recognise the importance of strengthening this network, in Noord-Nederland But we are also happy to contribute to this program beyond that.” Three HySociety meetings have now been held, with a total of nearly 200 attendees, where various professionals shared their insights from the field. For example, RWE gave a presentation on the successful tender for the offshore wind farm; Hollandse Kust West, Willem Hazenberg has provided insight into the Hydrogen Practorate at Drenthe College, Jacco Everts explained about the New Energy Traineeship that New Energy Coalition together with VONK, Cas König, CEO of Groningen Seaports, took the hydrogen professionals on board 'the Future of Groningen"I'm very enthusiastic about the HySociety meetings we've held so far. There have been inspiring presentations, the feedback from attendees has been very positive, and we've been able to bring people together for knowledge sharing or even potential collaboration. I'm looking forward to the next HySociety meeting in the fall. We're busy organizing and putting together an interesting and inspiring program," Jogchem concludes.
