Hydrogen Tiny House on tour through Drenthe
Three months on tour through the South and East Drenthe region: Hydrogen Tiny House shows the possibility of hydrogen as an energy source.
The Hydrogen Tiny House is ready and will tour six municipalities in the South and East Drenthe region starting Tuesday, September 14, 2021. The tiny house will demonstrate how hydrogen can be used as a fuel in homes and demonstrate how circular construction works in practice. Students from Alfa College in Hoogeveen co-developed and built the sustainable home. The project is a joint initiative of the municipality of Hoogeveen, Alfa College, and Friends of Technology Hoogeveen and is part of the South and East Drenthe Regional Deal. The project is part of the HEAVENN.-program, and the Hydrogen Valley of Noord-Nederland, and of which New Energy Coalition takes care of the program management.
In the coming months, the Hydrogen Tiny House will visit the six municipalities in the region affiliated with the South and East Drenthe Regional Deal: Hardenberg, Hoogeveen, Borger-Odoorn, Emmen, Aa en Hunze, and Coevorden. Local project partners are organising a varied programme focused on hydrogen, circular construction, and technical education. The tiny house can serve as a valuable inspiration for young people to pursue technical education. Information about the Hydrogen Tiny House and an overview of the tour can be found at www.waterstoftinyhouse.nl. Interested parties can register for a visit here.
Contributing to national tasks
The Hydrogen Tiny House is built with sustainable and, as much as possible, circular materials. Two different hydrogen systems will be demonstrated: a hydrogen central heating system and a self-sufficient system that produces hydrogen using electricity from the solar panels on the roof. The project contributes to the national energy transition and can demonstrate that hydrogen in the built environment is a viable alternative in this energy transition. Lessons learned during the project regarding circular construction and hydrogen will be shared during the tour.
Hybrid learning environment
The Hydrogen Tiny House was built by students from Alfa College in Hoogeveen, under the supervision of their instructors and in collaboration with regional businesses. In this hybrid learning environment, students are involved in every aspect of the construction, from creating construction drawings to selecting the right circular and sustainable materials for the building. They also learn about the use of green hydrogen as an energy source for (existing) homes and its application in installing the hydrogen system. A curriculum for various educational levels is being developed for the Hydrogen Tiny House, aimed at inspiring young people to explore technology.
Education, business and government
The Hydrogen Tiny House is funded by the Regional Deal South and East Drenthe. Within the Regional Deal South and East Drenthe, various parties are collaborating to improve prosperity in the region. Businesses are also contributing their expertise and networks to make the tiny house a reality.
About HEAVENN
HEAVENN is testing green hydrogen at 6 different locations through pilot projects across the entire value chain (production, transport, storage and end use) in Noord-Nederland namely Eemshaven, Delfzijl, Zuidwending, Emmen, Hoogeveen and Groningen to find out what is possible.
