Research into sustainable fuels for transport

The Interreg project "Green Across the Border" provides a clear overview of all sustainable fuels and engines for transport companies in the Rhine-Waal Euregion.

Various options

This overview is necessary because there is currently considerable debate about which alternative is the best choice. This debate is leading transport companies to make inconclusive choices and to emissions—CO2, NOx, and small particles/dust—not decreasing. By mapping the various options, the project aims to enable transport companies to better compare sustainable fuel and engine options. Based on this, transport companies can determine the best choice for them.

Sustainable fuels for CO2 reduction

The current range of sustainable fuels and alternative engines does not meet the targets for CO2 reduction and other pollutants in the transport sector. Therefore, the Dutch Energy Agreement and the German Climate Protection Plan stipulate that an energy mix is necessary for the transport sector. In recent years, several projects have been launched, such as eGLM en LNG PILOTS – have investigated alternative fuels, but these focused only on one specific fuel or propulsion technology.'Green across the border' researches and informs transport companies about all possible options so they can make the best choices.

Cross-border collaborations

The "Green Across the Border" project also focuses on further developing cross-border networks and promoting knowledge exchange. A cross-border stakeholder analysis will explore opportunities for German-Dutch cooperation in the field of alternative fuels. An analysis of potential alternative fuel filling stations in North Rhine-Westphalia will also be conducted.. All of this aligns with a larger study of so-called CleanEnergy Hubs in the Netherlands. The analyses will be presented in two (digital) workshops and a final conference, which will be held early next year.

Workshop

The first workshop will be held as a web conference on June 25, 2020, at 14.00:XNUMX PM. Stay tuned for more information.
