Eemshaven as an energy hub
Eemshaven is being further developed as an energy hub through a new "Net op Zee" connection.
TenneT is investing heavily in the Groningen energy region and has several projects underway in Eemshaven. The organization therefore calls Eemshaven the energy hub of Noord-Nederland, which is beneficial for the region.
An energy connection is planned as part of the Offshore Grid project. "TenneT is preparing to connect the wind farm 'North of the Wadden Islands' to the high-voltage grid," says our coalition partner Groningen Seaports. The route is scheduled for completion on January 14, 2026. Approximately 85 to 90 kilometers of cables will run through the sea, landing at Schiermonnikoog. They will then continue towards Eemshaven.
