King Willem-Alexander at the fifth Wind Meets Gas symposium
His Majesty the King will attend the annual two-day Wind Meets Gas symposium in the Martinikerk in Groningen on Thursday morning, October 7th.
The King will give an opening speech. During the symposium, energy experts and policymakers from the Netherlands and abroad will discuss the latest developments in the energy transition related to hydrogen, particularly green hydrogen.
Wind Meets Gas symposium
The symposium is an initiative of New Energy Coalition. This is a continuously growing network of knowledge institutions, businesses, governments, and NGOs collaborating to accelerate the energy transition for a sustainable future. The theme of this fifth edition is the role of the North Sea Region in accelerating and scaling up the energy transition and the goal of being climate neutral by 2050.
King Willem-Alexander's opening speech will be followed by addresses by Sandor Gaastra, Director-General for Climate and Energy at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Diederik Samson, Chief of Staff to European Commissioner Frans Timmermans, responsible for European climate policy. A 3D presentation about the HEAVENN project will then be shown. This six-year project consists of several demonstration projects that bring together the key elements of hydrogen production, distribution, storage, and local end-use in a "Hydrogen Valley." A hydrogen-powered truck will then be explained. It is one of the new models from Holthausen/Hyzon Motors in Winschoten, which specializes in building hydrogen-powered trucks. Finally, the King will visit a photo exhibition about activities and employment opportunities related to the development of the hydrogen value chain in the region. Here, King Willem-Alexander will speak with several participants in the symposium.
