HEAVENN voted Europe's Hydrogen Valley of the Year
Tonight, during EU Hydrogen Week in Brussels, the HEAVENN project was named Europe's 'Hydrogen Valley of the Year'. HEAVENN. is a multi-annual EU programme for the development of a fully functioning green hydrogen chain in Noord-Nederland. New Energy Coalition is the initiator and coordinator of the program. The award was presented by Clean Hydrogen Partnership.
HEAVENN Hydrogen Valley
The HEAVENN programme involves collaboration with 31 public and private parties from 6 EU countries. The programme is working to establish a fully operational hydrogen economy in Noord-Nederland, mainly in the provinces of Groningen and Drenthe. The energy expertise and infrastructure available there, along with the existing energy-intensive industry, form a perfect ecosystem for this. From extraction and onshore (offshore wind near Eemshaven), to production (electrolysers), storage (salt caverns in Veendam), transport and distribution (pipeline network), and consumption in energy-intensive industries (Delfzijl, Emmen) and the built environment (Hoogeveen). The developed mobility infrastructure (including hydrogen filling stations in Emmen and Pesse) completes the system.
Moreover, there's a logically widespread sense of urgency among administrators, entrepreneurs, institutions, and residents in this region to build a new energy economy. This aligns everyone and helps realise the projects.
As the first Hydrogen Valley in the EU, we are building the complete hydrogen chain in Noord-Nederland, a testing ground for global developments. Receiving this Award is a recognition of our commitment. As a follow-up, we are now taking the next step towards cross-border Hydrogen Valleys. With HEAVENN, we are also contributing to the RePowerEU programme.
- - Patrick Cnubben, Director of Hydrogen Strategy of New Energy Coalition, is the architect of the HEAVENN programme
A wonderful recognition for this project, as we are already fully engaged in the next phase: connecting international Hydrogen Valleys.
- - Marieke Abbink, General Manager of New Energy Coalition:
International Hydrogen Week
The annual international hydrogen weekin Brussels will address the current state of research, politics, policy, and economics of clean hydrogen as part of the global energy system of the future. The event is organised by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership (formerly FCH 2 JU), the European Commission, Hydrogen Europe, and Hydrogen Europe Research.
When the Hydrogen Valley of the Year Award was announced for the Dutch project, administrators also reacted enthusiastically:
I am delighted with the Hydrogen Valley of the Year award. It is a privilege to actively support other Hydrogen Valleys and interested regions as a leader. You are cordially invited to Noord-Nederland to learn how to build a hydrogen ecosystem!
- Melissa van Hoorn, Member of the Provincial Executive of Groningen
Receiving this award motivates us to take further steps. We hope that our efforts can inspire other regions as well.
- - Tjisse Stelpstra, deputy for the Province of Drenthe
