HEAVENN on a royal hydrogen mission to Madrid
New Energy CoalitionThis week, director Marieke Abbink represented the HEAVENN. programme and Hydrogen Valley Noord NL during the hydrogen mission in Madrid led by HM King Willem-Alexander.
Hydrogen
The visit focused on hydrogen as a key energy carrier in the energy system of the future. To further strengthen and solidify collaboration on hydrogen, several Dutch companies and knowledge institutions participated in the visit.
International cooperation
International cooperation in knowledge exchange, stimulating supply and demand, and building infrastructure for hydrogen transport and storage is essential for developing the hydrogen market and the necessary infrastructure. Spain will become a major supplier of green hydrogen in Europe; hydrogen can then be exported to Northwest Europe via Spanish and Dutch ports. Import and export corridors within Europe contribute to stronger security of supply.
To achieve a climate-neutral energy system and a sustainable industry, the Netherlands and Europe have ambitious hydrogen ambitions. International cooperation is essential to develop the hydrogen market and the necessary infrastructure. Ultimately, it's the companies that will truly have to take the lead. It's crucial that this is already happening and that Dutch and Spanish companies make agreements with each other about the supply of green hydrogen.
